  1. Great book! I really enjoyed it. I barely could put it down. I like that the guy and girl have faith in another and don't judge each other about their pasts. Its a really touching book. Everyone should read it!

  2. I loved Right Behind You. I thought that it was a great book about hardship and love, especially in the face of hard times. I found it captivating to read, and I couldn’t put it down. I liked how the author never let you know what was coming, whether it was a release from jail or another move. I also liked how it was a great coming of age book. I thought that it showed how one boy with a troubled past learned to accept himself through the troubles he had to go through. I really thought this was a great book. I enjoyed it cover to cover, and would recommend it to others in a heartbeat.

  3. Rachel, I must agree, I really enjoyed the book. It was one of the most emotional books I have read, it was a priceless experience!!

Megan, I loved the book, and how you never knew what was coming. There was foreshadowing and everything, but you never knew what was going to happen! =] Most definately recomminding to everyone I know! It isn't even all about love, it's just about a boy who doesn't know what's going on!!! =] I hated Twofer's story just as much as Kip's! I thought it was extremely sad to read about TwoFer! :'(

  4. I agree with Rachel S. The book has touching moments and you really do get sucked into Kip/Wade's troubles as if they were your own. The suspense is a killer too, always wondering what he'll do next.

Megan W. has a point too, it's a learning experience that you read. It relates in a way how some of the kids around Kip/Wade's age can't get over something they did once, and they allow it to eat at them from the inside out.

The setting of my book is where Kip/Wade is in Therapy. I think this is an important setting to the book because Kip got in to a lot of trouble. He doesn’t know how to cope with his actions very well. It’s also important because it will show us how far the character comes from where he is now and how he gets better.
This book is awesome so far. I didn’t want to put it down when I first started reading it. Right away I was sucked into it. I hope Kip gets better and I am Anxious to see what happens. I also really want to see what happens with the dad, and how he will gradually get better with what has happen and how he is going to help his son out, because so far it seems to me that the father has NOT helped out a lot, only Kip is trying and the staff at the hospital. I feel that the father needs some help as well because they both have lost someone they loved very much, and all that stress on them both his hurting them. I am excited to see what happens next (:

The setting of my book starts out with the boy doing work for his father dealing with gas. The neighbor comes over and makes fun of Kip’s family for being poor and also made fun of Kip’s mom for dying, and then Kip lost it and want to light the glove on fire using the gas, but the fire spread to the boy then killing and burning the boy to death. This is very important to the story because it then sends Kip to prison for juveniles. I think Kip being in prison will predict that Kip later in the story will become more of a fugitive, because of his fugitive surroundings.
So far this book has been amazing and very interesting to read to the fact of a lot of fighting and action through out the first fifty pages that I have read, I can’t wait to finish the rest.

The setting in the novel is where Kip is in the rehab center. In the beginning the setting took place at his old home with his father and his aunt. The situation with Bobby is significant because it’s basically what this whole book is about. Through this whole book, Kip is trying to recover from the so called “accident” he caused. I was a little confused with the beginning because it was when he was younger and then all of a sudden he was older and in a counseling center to help with his incident that supposedly happened years before that, but I do really like this book so far. In the beginning, it captured me immediately. It made me not even want to put it down. I was actually disappointed when class was over! I have not read much of the book yet, but I am excited to continue tomorrow!

In the beginning of my novel the first setting takes place in Alaska, where a young boy set another boy on fire at the age of 9. As I progress in reading each page, then setting later changes into the boy going into a mental hospital, where they seek to find help, or help him recover. The setting may be important in future rolls because it has an effect on the way the boy acts, and what people may pursue him to be. If they find out later in the story I think it will play a detrimental toll on the boy. So far, I think the novel is great; it has a way of pulling you into the story where you want to read more, and more. The way its set up , it shows you two people who he was, and who he is now. The book is interesting so far, and I cannot wait to read more.

In ‘Right Behind You’ one of the settings is in a juvenile ward. This would be important to the story because this is where Kip spend 4 years of his life after an incident when he was nine. In the war Kip begins to figure out what he’s done and if he should ever forgive himself. Once Kip is released from the ward, he changes his name to Wade. This leads to one of the other important settings, which is Wade’s new school in Indiana. Wade attends this new school and it’s important because this will be a new beginning for him. This is kind of like a process for Wade to forgive himself and accept what he’s done but at the same time, he can let it all go. I think this novel is really interesting. It is suspenseful and keeps you guessing. It’s interesting to keep up with what Wade is doing and what he’ll do next to get his life back in line at his new school and outside of school.

In the book ”Right Behind You” there is a little kid named kip who lives in Alaska. He sets a kid on fire and is sent to a mental hospital in Indiana. I think this setting is important to the rest of the book because it will probably set up another major thing he does later on in the book. I think this book is really interesting because you never hear about one kid setting another kid on fire. I think that the kid will hurt somebody else in the book and get in more trouble. I think Kip has anger issues and should go to some anger management classes. Kip is going to go to a new school and be the new kid and people are going to pick on him and that’s why he’s going to get in trouble again.

The setting for the novel Right Behind You is in Alaska at a mental institution where kids who have done bad things and cope with the things they have done in a unpleasant manor. The setting might be important to this novel because it gives you the understanding of what things are like for kids who cant deal with there problems very well. I think this novel is very good because it tells you the life of a young boy named Kip, and all the horrible things that have happened in his life had made him do a horrible thing to another young boy. I think Kip was probably a very miss understood child, so he acted out in a very bad way, which had sent him to a mental institution in Alaska where he had encountered many more horrible things that made him do more terrible things.

The setting of my book I’m reading is at this mental institution in Alaska.
This is important to for the novel because the main character got put into the institution because he set a kid on fire. So I think most of the book will take place at this institution. He meets some acquaintances that have made wrong decision that have gotten them put there as well. He can kind of relate to them in a way since there all there for different but similar reasons.
I do like the main character Kip; even though he set a kid on fire I think he is good at heart. He just lost his temper for a little but I think the kid was asking for it since he was rubbing his new glove in kip’s face and he told Kip that he didn’t even have a mom to buy him a glove like that because he knew that Kip couldn’t afford one himself. But I feel Kip could have hit the guy instead of lighting him on fire but I think he just was in the moment and his adrenaline was juts running threw his body and he just happened to have a bucket of gasoline on him and just set him on fire.

The setting of the story takes place in a hospital/ Mental Institution in Alaska. This is a very key detail in the story because it shows were he tells how he got there, and the therapy he went through. It also is a vital part of the story because he tells his story from that place and how he turned out like that.
In my opinion he could have just hit the kid instead of lighting him on fire and killing him. Which I never thought a kid could build up so much anger to throw gasoline on someone. One thing I wonder was what the kid’s mental state was before and after the killing to make him pass out. He obviously had problems coping with his emotions dealing with his mom dying and his dad treating like he is working at a job. That it what I think about this story.

Right behind you is a great book so far. The first couple chapters really grab your attention. Especially the very first page. At first I didn’t really get it, like ‘why would you set a kid on fire?’ But as I read more it started to make sense. I feel a little sorry for both Kip and Bobby. Since you know, Bobby died but Kip didn’t know what he was doing and I think that it was really his dad’s fault. But the story line is really interesting, I can hardly put the book down! Too bad our teachers won’t let us take the books out of class. The way Kip uses sarcasm is kind of funny too. What I don’t understand is why Kip always sorts the candy when he goes to see The Frown. And I also didn’t understand the whole Wile E. Coyote thing. What is that even about? I mean I know that it somehow links to Bobby’s death but still? I wish the author would have cleared that up a little more.

‘Right Behind You’ so far actually has two settings. In the first part of the book, the setting is in Alaska. It starts off at Kips’ house, where he burns a kid, then finishes in a juvenile mental ward. Mainly in the juvenile place he is talking to a guy that he calls ‘the frown’. In the second part of the book takes place in Whitestone, Indiana, where Kip, who now goes by Wade, attends high school. The first setting is important because without there being a setting in Alaska, you wouldn’t know why he had to go to a juvenile ward, move to Indiana, and change his name. With what happened in the first setting I think that ‘Wade’ is definitely going to have some issues fitting in, and trying to be a completely different person, living on as if what happened in his past never happened. I think that the book defiantly has interesting parts, but to me in the beginning it starts off really slow. I didn’t like it at first, but at the part I’m on now, is a lot more interesting.

The Main Characters are Kip, and everyone at the ward, and his Dad and Carrie. Carrie is his dads new girl friend, Kip met her when they had a family session at the ward about a few weeks before he is going to be released.
I agree with Melissa Z. Kip isn't understood. No one understands what he was going through, I am sure Kip wasn't 100% sure of what he did. There a lot of things on Kips mind.
I think Hanna R. has a point on this Issues situation. Yeah He will have some issues because he has never been to a REAL high school. How would he know how to dress, plus all the kids picking on him is adding to the baggage he already has. I think if people knew who he was they would have acted a lot different. But I am glad that he ends up fitting and life gets a tad better for him! I just wish he'd know how to cope with not having to feel as if he doesn't deserve a good life after the Crap he has done.! but he does!

The setting in my novel is on a family farm and also in a mental hospital. i think later on in this novel in with be where he is now and where he living and goes. What i think of this novel is good. It is weird how a little boy can do that to someone over a glove. Also i think he did that because he wanted, he never got everything like that so he wanted the glove. I also feel bad for him too because like he never had a great life, his mother died when he was 9 and his father was never nice. So maybe that’s why he did it.

the character in this book , right behind youuu , name is kip , or wade , it is mostly about him , he sets a kid on fire at the age of 9 , mostly on accident , and was sent to therapy because the accident messed him up in tha head . he has stayed at the mental hospital for a few years until he was released and able to attend regular high school , for a while , he was made fun of and shunned from everyone else , up until his junior year in high school , he has told his friends about his mistake that happend when he was 9 , now he has moved to indiana and lives another life again

  24. In right behind you Kip is obviously corrupted because he killed a little boy. This makes him completely quiet and nonresponsive to others. Then finally he starts to talk, but when he talks he seems to be very angry, and will remain angry until he can get forgiveness for what he had done to bobby, but first he must forgive himself. Wade is different from Kip because Wade is living a semi normal life with friends, but when things are going good he blows it because he can’t let himself get happy. Dad and Carry very supportive and seem to do the best they can with dealing with Wade even though it seem that they have to pay for wade’s decisions.

In this novel the main characters are, Wade / Kip, Carrie, Kips dad, and the counselor. There are many other characters. Such as, Bobbie, AC, Dave, and the b’s. Bobbie is the child who was burned by Kip. He is indirectly characterized as a child who is boastful of the things that he has, such as the baseball glove that had been mentioned at the start of the story. Most of the authors characters are indirect, because he never quite says word for word just how the characters are. You can tell through actions and emotions though, making them indirect characterizations. Kip is sort of hard to understand though. Sometimes he’s content, and other times he is sad. He had a lot of mood swings and seems to be always in conflict with himself. Kips dad is understanding as well as his stepmom carrie. AC is nice, but clingy, the b’s are very religious. Kip has just moved and he is about to meet new people.

i think the main character in this book kip or wade is really jacked up in the head and should still e in rehab. i think him and the sam girl in texas got together because they are so alike. carrie is a good person because she brought wades dad out of the dumps. i like the shrink in texas because he is funny. I think sam is going to get wade to believe that he deserves happiness. Wades girlfriend from Indiana didn’t help him at all she actually made him feel worse because she complained too much. Wade should consider going to schoo, with other kids again.

For whoever asked why he lit the kid on fire I think he just meant to set the glove on fire not the lil 7 yr old. He also did it not because the kid had a new glove and he didn’t, the little guy said something about his mom dying which you just don’t say to a person duhh.I feel bad for kip but if I were a shrink and he mouthed off to me like that or gave me backtalk I wuouldnt be able to stay calm. The main characters in my novel consist of; kip/wade, Dave, Carrie & wades dad. Kip/wade is someone who is directly and indirectly described as a small, brown haired, anti-social, young innocent boy as it may seem, but later gets caught up in a huge mess, and is now considered as a baby burner. After he got his new identity his whole physical features changed as well as his emotional state of mind. He got more muscle, became more socially active, and tried to become happy. At the first look wade thought Dave looked like someone who wasn’t very welcoming, but went on to realize he was, and a great friend. Dave is a tall, blonde haired, squared chin looking kind of guy; he became wades friend instantly, so he is obviously a very nice and kind person. In the beginning wade didn’t accept Carrie, well he really didn’t care, but he didn’t want to love her. He came to the conclusion that Carrie was a genuine person, and very kind-hearted. She is tall, and perfect in wades dads eyes. Wades dad has stuck with him through it all; he never left wade/kip, even when he was in the mental hospital. His dad has wrinkles on his face, from all the worrying he’s done over the years, and is a tough, selfish person, but he is a one to stick around and support his son, no matter what, cause he loves him.

The main character in this novel is Wade (Kip), in the book he is described directly as a good looking guy with brown hair, very skinny in the beginning, and then the book tells you he gets more muscular after he stars swimming. Indirectly, he would be considered unselfish because he doesn’t think he deserves to be happy. Since Kip burned another child because Kip wanted the glove that the other kid got, so he could be described indirectly as jealous. Wade meets Dave at his new school in Indiana, and he is also one of the main characters. Wade and Dave become close. Directly, Dave was tall and blonde and had a square-like face. Indirectly, Dave wasn’t a very forgiving person, you could tell this because once Dave found out about Wade’s past as Kip, and he no longer wanted to be around him at all. The other two main characters are Wade’s dad and his girlfriend, Carrie. In the book, Wade’s dad always was there for Wade, and with all the mistakes Wade made, his dad was unselfish and did what was best. Carrie always cared for Wade and gave him advice when he needed it. She did what was best for him even though he wasn’t her own son.

I also agree with Natasha K. because I think that Wade is really a good person, and he just made a bad decision earlier in life but he isn’t a bad person. Kip just lost his temper for a moment and didn’t realize what he was doing or how it was going to affect everyone and himself.

The main character in Right Behind You is Wade, formerly Kip. Wade has some anger management issues and you can tell this because when he was 9 he threw a bottle of gasoline on this kid Bobby, then set him on fire because ‘Wade’ was jealous of Bobby’s new baseball glove. Bobby is another main character because everything that happens to Wade throughout the book is all because of what happened between him and Bobby. The main characters in the novel Right Behind You are Wade (Kip), his stepmother Carrie, and his dad. But the character that I will be telling you about is Wade (Kip). Some indirect characterization about Wade is that he has a short temper, he has black long shaggy hair, and he has been homeschooled his entire life and has moved 5 times, in the last 3 months of his life. Direct characterization about Wade (Kip) is that he is a great swimmer, has been to a mental hospital for 3 years, his house in Alaska was burned to the ground by people who had hated him for burning a child. Wade also had moved 2 times since the incident with the child and the glove, he made great friends when he went to a public school for the first time, he had from Alaska to Indiana because he killed a little kid, but then he had to move from Indiana to Texas because he had told his friends what he had done.

The main characters of the novel are kip that is now wade. Which he had to change because the way him and his dad were treated, and his dad having to move just because of it. He was described as a young kid that had went through a tough time and couldn’t help himself. The dad is one of the other main characters who have supported his son through everything he had gone through. Even stuck by him when his son went through anger problems and yell at him, and pick fights with him. The dad was considered mean and all he wanted to do was work. The new kid that has showed him to his classes and showed him what he should do to survive. He even invited him to go to the mall so he is becoming a main character of the story. He was described as having a big square head and his dad happens to be wades math teacher. The doctor, Doctor Frown who has helped him through everything such as helping him with his anger, what he should do when he gets into the real world. How he should act, the way he should dress and the way to survive high school. That is the way the main characters were portrayed in the story.

I agree with London C. because she is right about how Wade (Kip) should figure out how to cope with not having to feel as bad as he does for what he did to that child, but he didn’t know better he was a 9 year old who was poor and home schooled. He was probably never able to get a lot of human interaction because he was home schooled; Wade disserves a good life no not a good life a great life were people except him for who he is and not for what he has done.
I also disagree with Cole D. because Wade (Kip) doesn’t need to go to anger management classes he just needs someone to understand him, to love him, and to teach him right from wrong. Wade has anger but not enough to go to classes he needs classes to help him cope with how he has to live with what he could do to his family if he says another thing bad or says another thing bad. Wade needs help and WANTS help but he just doesn’t know how to tell people because no one wants to listen to him they just want to believe what they want to believe.

I agree with you on most of what you’re saying, but there is a certain thing that I disagree with. When you said that kip was jealous and he thought the glove should be his because that’s not what he felt, and that’s not why he set him on fire. He did it because the kid was shoving it in his face and saying that he doesn’t have a mom to give it to him. Which built up more anger then he already had which was over losing his mom and his dad and his aunt fighting over him. Well that’s what I think.

    Dear Ali W.

The main character in my story is Kip. Well now his name is Wade. The author describes him as tall and lengthy. Kip “wade” one his first day of school wore duck shoes a plad shirt and grandpa jeans. Since he just moved from Alaska to Indiana he didn’t fit in. so this super cute girl and his friend Dave that had a big square head took him shopping so he could fit in. so now he wears long sleeve shirts, Nikes, and better jeans. He has anger management problems. He gets mad very easily but his therapists Dr.Frown helps him control his anger. He feels like he is under pressure because he has to live like two peoples’ lives and keep this big secret from everyone now and he has to watch what he says around people or it might give away who he really is; so he can never be relaxed.
To Cole d. kip has been taking anger management. And I don’t think he will hurt someone else I think people will find out about him in Indiana and he will have to move schools again.
I agree with Kathryn about why he did it since his mom died and that kid brought his mom into the little argument he deserved getting hurt maybe not dying though; you don’t bring someone’s dead mother into something. It’s just rude!
I want to see what happens to kip “wade” and the girl he thinks is really cute. Since she was really nice to him the first day of school she might have a little crush on him. So I want to see if they go out or just stay friend or what?

If the dad knew that the son was going to do this, I don’t think he would of left the gasoline and the lighter. But the father didn’t know that he’s son could never do that. So it’s really not his fault at all.

The thing I do agree with you is that the kid did derive to get hurt but not get burned alive. It was so wrong for bobby to say “that you don’t even have a mom to buy you one”. It’s not right for someone to say that I understand but it’s never right to set someone on fire

The main character in Right Behind You is Kip/Wade. Kip is described as selfish, childish, and stubborn by many people who know him. People also assume that he is evil, and has no heart. Wade is also described as being a sweet and caring. Wade often tries to not let things get to him. Since he is trying to put everything behind him, and erase the angry, violent, old him and be someone new. Kip is also a bit of a sass, wade slipped in class one day and reveled himself. Kip does not like sympathy.

An internal conflict in this book is that Wade cannot let himself become happy because he won’t forgive himself for what he did to Bobby Clark. I think he will some how find a way to forgive himself and become happy. He will then live a some what normal life. The mood in this story is kinda sad because I feel bad for Wade and his family because they have to keep moving place to place, just because Wade thinks he has to punish himself and won’t let himself be happy because he lit Bobby Clark on fire.

An example of internal conflict that is currently going on in the book would be when Sam wanted to tell Wade what her past was. An example of external conflict would be when the girl was telling Wade what Sam’s past was and she refused to serve her and was rude about Sam being there with him. Sam is definitely internally struggling with the labels people have for her and her past reputation. I predict that Sam will end up telling Wade what all happened between her and the people that don’t like her. I think that Wade will end up making her feel better, and accepted. So far the mood in this novel is sad, and anxious.

An internal conflict in the story is when wade meets the new neighbor sam, and likes her and wants to be more than friends, but it seems as if she doesn’t want anything to do with him at first. I think it will be resolved by sam and wade getting together and they will be boyfriend and girlfriend. An external conflict in the story is when sam meets the girl who works at the book store coffee shop and they get into a short little argument, making it immediately obvious that they hate each other and have had a past, especially sam

An internal conflict that kip/wade struggles with is man vs. himself. Throughout the book kip/wade beats himself up about how he set another kid on fire. He never fully forgives himself, and won’t let himself have the right to become happy, or have anything close to happiness. Wherever he goes, or whatever he does, the memory of that day is always stuck in the back of his mind. I predict it will take some to get resolved but the ongoing sessions with his therapist will surly help with him overcoming this struggle. When I was reading , I felt the mood was both suspenseful, because you always wondered what was going to happen to him, and understanding, because no matter what happened, you felt a sort of sorry for what he went through, and how it has affected him. The tone the author felt while writing the book, was based upon something he might have read somewhere, or maybe something similar to what he went through as a child.

Also the whole book is interesting to me, not just some parts. Although I do agree with her when she said that without the setting in Alaska, you really wouldn’t know what had happened, which is true, because that’s where is all started.

I also disagree with ali w. I believe it was kips fault, he was old enough to realize that what he was about to do was bad, and he may not have known all the consequences, but he sure did know that lighting a kid on fire wasn’t the right thing to do. It might have been his dads fault somewhat for leaving all that harmful stuff unsupervised, but it was kips decision even if it was spur of the moment. I’m not saying I don’t feel bad for him, I do since he was felt very regretful afterwards, but we have to take responsibility for our actions.

Wade is dealing with both an external conflict and an internal. On the outside he deals with his friends thinking he has the perfect life, which he really doesn’t. He struggles with his emotions on the inside and he ends up telling his friends his past. Which practically ruins his chances of staying there? They even know that, that story actually happened, because they had heard about it on the news. I don’t necessarily think they can resolve what he had told them but I think they will move far away, to get away from the drama. Which I think will be hard on wade because all the moving and possibly changing his name.

The internal conflicted kip is dealing with is his having to lie to everyone about himself. He has to hide who he really is because of what he did in his past with the little boy. It’s really hard for him to keep that too him self. He feels really bad about it inside because he feels like he’s living two lives and always has to watch what he says or does so no one can find out what he did.
The external conflict he is dealing with is him and his friends got into an argument. It all started because one of the b’s started dating a girl outside of the church and did the “no pants dance” with her. After the argument wade finally broke down and told Dave and the other guys who he really was and what happened in his past and they immediately started judging him and they just didn’t think of him the same.
The mood is sad right now. I feel like its sad because I wish kips friends would have given him another chance the only one who considered trying to understand him was Dave but that is probably because Dave and kip were the closest out of them all.
I disagree with Cole d. it wasn’t all kips fault he did have that choice to walk away and ignore him but it really hard to do that when someone keeps going at you even when you try to ignore them, and when someone brings your dead mom into something, it rude. Kip also had anger management, so it was probably really hard for him to try to ignore the little boy.
I agree with Tyler f. I think kip didn’t have to set the kid on fire he could have just hit him or something but he didn’t have to set him on fire and have him die. And the thing that’s worse is the little kid had a slow painful death because he died in three days not right away.

So what he does is he makes the tough decision of talking to Sam’s father first. He is an evangelical preacher, and then Kip/Wade rights his whole life story. All in three notebooks. He had loved with absolutely cutest, which they fought but they got back together and fell in love again. But he didn’t feel the same way about making love with AC. An internal conflict in the story is with how Wade has to keep his secret from so many people, when it would probably just be better if he tells people what he had done when he was nine years old. But if he tells people he might have to move to another state because they’re afraid that his wrong doing might get out and everyone dislike him and his family, and want him to leave town. Wade also has an external conflict with Sam, because he likes him a lot and wants to be with her but he’s afraid that if he tells her about his wrong doing then she might tell everyone, and not want to be with him or talk to him. The conflict could be resolved by him telling Sam just a little about what he had done so she could trust him. The mood that the author of the novel had created is sad, happy, mad, confused, left out. The tone of the novel the author had created is happy, sadness, distant, calm, and angry.
I agree with London C. because she is right about how Wade (Kip) should figure out how to cope with not having to feel as bad as he does for what he did to that child, but he didn’t know better he was a 9 year old who was poor and home schooled. He was probably never able to get a lot of human interaction because he was home schooled; Wade disserves a good life no not a good life a great life were people except him for who he is and not for what he has done

My overall look on this book is that it is very good, but the ending was very disappointing because it didn’t keep going the book shouldn’t have ended with just Sam being understanding, should’ve ended with something dramatic, fun, or even death, not just a boring ending like Sam saying I’m right behind you.

It seemed like the whole book was like that, except the last five sentences. So I actually think this book is a complete waste of your time because there is no real ending, So I do not recommend this book, unless your going to make up your own ending. Later as you read, it mentioned the where Kip was in life and how he got there with all of the things he had gone through. It started in basically a psyche ward. In there he learned about himself, and how to deal with himself and his interactions with others. Next he learns to adapt to a new environment and finally attend a regular school with regular people and is forced to do to change his identity. He then convinces himself that it is too much to hide and to handle and his gets drunk and tells his secret. He is then forced to move to a new home. He decides not to go to school and is homeschooled and meets a girl who has problems of her own. I think the book right behind you was a really good book. It was suspenseful, exciting, and easily understandable so it didn’t confuse the reader. It makes you think that no matter what happens, or what mistakes you’ve made, everything will be okay. I actually think it would make a pretty good movie. I would recommend it to a lot of my friends. It’s the first book I have read in like 2 years and I enjoyed it. There should be a sequel I think because they sort of leave you hanging at the end because you don’t know what happens between Sam and Kip. I also liked it because it did not take that long to read, so you didn’t get tired of reading it. This book also sends somewhat of a message saying don’t feel sorry for yourself, because other people have probably gone through something as bad or worse than what you went through.

Comment 1: I agree with tyler f and think that telling his friends in Indiana what he had done when he was 9 yrs old (lighting a 7 yr old on fire) was the absolute dummest thing he could’ve done. He had everything going for him. A hot girlfriend, star of the swim team, a lot of friends, including a best friend. By telling them what happened, he lost EVERYTHING.

Comment 2: I agree with natasha k and think the argument with his friends was a conflict, but instead of external, I think it was an external conflict. He had the thought in the back of his head that he didn’t deserve happiness because of what he did. He had been bottling all of it up until then, and when he couldn’t take it anymore, he let it all out. In some cases getting things off your chest can be a good thing, but in this case, it turned out for the worse.

The book “Right behind you” is a very great and interesting book. I greatly recommend this book to someone who loves a book where there is a lot of drama and loves books that involve crime. This book is the type that is has you glued from the beginning if you understand what is occurring in the story. I love how this book is in the perspective of the person who committed a crime and shows his views. In the book, it expressed that everyone has different opinions on what people do and have done in their past. “Right behind you” also shows that someone who did something terrible in their past when they were young and didn’t understand, can be a good person once they grow up and see everything in a different light. This book makes you think about all the people who have committed a crime in their lifetime and whether they are really a bad person or just a person who was confused at the time and didn’t realize the way they were handling the situation, or was in the heat of the moment. I very much enjoyed this book and loved the way it was told.

I agree with Kelly S because throughout the book, Wade constantly beats himself up for what he did way back in his past. He thinks he doesn’t deserve any happiness and that he shouldn’t forgive himself and neither should anyone else. Whenever Wade begins to feel himself belonging somewhere and he begins to feel happy, he feels he doesn’t deserve it and should tell everyone what he did.

I agree with Natasha K because Wade is lying to everyone about who he really is and what he has done in his past. And it is really hard for Wade to keep that all to himself, especially when he starts to feel everything is going great, and he has the urge to tell someone because he thinks he doesn’t deserve to have things going perfectly.

“Right behind you” was a fantastic book. From the start it pulled me in immediately, and those are the types of books I generally like. It expressed through words how everyone struggles with the actions they come across, Many in different ways than others. It showed that everyone no matter who it is, makes mistakes, and has to suffer the consequences for what they’ve done. Also the way people act afterwards, what they do, and how they do it. It gives you a generalization of someone’s life, and many people now of days like to read about other people. Plus this book shows you differing sides and opinions, what others thought of kip/wade as well. The book somewhat resembles everyday life, how no one will ever listen to someone side of the story long enough to understand what he/she is going through , and why he/she did what they did. All in all, I thought the book was great, and whoever likes novels that show you the struggles of people, and how they live their life after all of that, you should defiantly read this.

I agree with Kathryn B. an internal conflict is with himself, and I also think that he is stuck in between to decisions whether he should tell, of keep quit so he doesn’t jeopardize what he has going on for him. Both choices have a different outcome, and not knowing which is for the best, puts in a bad situation.

Another person I agree with is Cole D. he refers to the tone as being sort of what’s going to happen next and I think it really does have that tone, because whichever page you turn to, something new and exciting is happening, and that’s what a lot of people like.

The first half of the book Right Behind you was really interesting. Especially the very first page which was a chapter in it’s own. But then the second half where Wade(Kip)’s life got more complicated, it was frustrating to read. You just want everything for him to go perfect when really he just keeps screwing things up, like when he blew his secret to his friends after they won the swim meet. That was a stupid move Wade. His life finally had gotten good but he won’t let himself have a good life because he thinks he doesn’t deserve it after he killed Bobby. That just makes the reader frustrated because it goes so well for him and then he just explodes. And then he met Sam and that’s where the story started going downhill for me because I lost interest. The end of the book was really stupid too. It’s like, I just read all of that, for this? Unless you want to be disappointed, I wouldn’t recommend this book.

In conclusion I thought that the two books that I read (‘Sold’ and ‘Right Behind You’) were very good. I thought that both had slow beginnings, but as the story progressed it became much more interesting, and you won’t want to put the book down. They both also had crappy ending. The endings of both books cut off. In ‘Sold’ she tells someone something that she learned in English, and then the book ended. In ‘Right Behind You’ Sam tells him that she is right behind him, then the book is over. I would definitely recommend these books to people. In both books the main characters had happy ending to, so that’s a plus! I also thought that ‘Sold’ was a bit confusing. On one page you’re at point a then the next page you are at point z. They both had good plots. Overall they were both good books, and I would recommend them to anyone who wants to read a good book.

I liked the first few chapters until chapter 29 and till it ended. The ending was really stupid because it just tells u a little story about how Wade had called the little kids mom and asked about Kip. She told him all about him and how she hates him terribly. I wish they would have ended the book a lot better. The author needs to make another book because he left this book hanging on the edge of a cliff, and it makes me mad. The author made it sound really stupid by ending the book with Sam calling Wade and telling him she was right behind him. I wish the author thought more about how to end the book because I think it’s a super stupid ending that needs to be changed or torn out.

I really enjoyed this book. I don’t like to read much but I always looked forward to reading in class I didn’t want to put it down. The book was really interesting. The beginning got me hooked right away. It made me want to keep reading to find out what was going to happen to him. On part two I liked how it started with his first day of school was I fun to read. To see how his first day went and that he got his clothes stolen but he didn’t let his anger control him he just didn’t care. But as he got settled in Indiana it kind of got boring to me but it got my attention back when he lashed out and told his friends who he really was and what happened in his past. I liked the Texas part because kip met a girl Sam and she had a bad past too. So I think they could relate to each other more and she didn’t judge him like other people would have.
I agree with Alli w on that the book teaches us something it kind of teaches us to not have anger or any other emotions take over us and make us do stupid things in the moment. But I also think it does teach us not to judge people. Everyone has a past and not everyone’s is a good past so I think we shouldn’t judge people on what they did in the past, especially if they have changed.
I agree with Tyler f I do like the way kip handles and carries himself. He has a lot of confidence and doesn’t care what other people think about him. I like how when people do things that they think will bring him down he just shakes it off and doesn’t care. Like when the bullies stole his close he didn’t care and he just wore the over sized sweats and shoes like it was the new style.

    Dear Patrick
I agree with you totally they like each other but there was something wrong with sam that made her distance herself from wade, and how she got in the fight with the coffee shop girl. I don’t know if they will get togeather though because you cant really tell with this girl.

    Dear Ali
I totally agree with you about the internal conflict because it was a smart Idea by him so she could slowly take it in, and think about what she wanted to do. It was good he explained his whole life as well because she could get a sense of what he has went through and the way he wants to be treated.

What I think about the book so far is that it’s kind of bored in the middle. I really liked it in the beginning because I really wanted to know what happen it the boy who set the other boy on fire. But now that I got pashed that point I really don’t care. I think that the author should have put more time into the beginning. Will it seem like you went though it really fast like how it talked about his mother dying. I wanted to know more about his life. Than just two pages into the book it is already talking about the boy that set on fire. I also wanted to know more about Kip and his father relationship because it was so bad at the beginning. But beside that the book is good.

    Dear Hannah
I don’t agree with you about kip. I don’t think is selfish, childish. I think that he is just going though some hard times. I would be doing the something if I got put into a mental hospital. It would be really hard to go through something like that without anyone on your side.

I do agree with you about the internal conflict because he can never be himself, Because of what he did. He will never be able to let it go. I think that one he well be able to forgive it.

I agree with Melissa Z that kip/wade was/is a very misunderstood child. Even if he feels extremely horrible for what he did, or he has changed. No one will see that, they will only see the fact that he burned a child. Because of this he has to live with terrible guilt until he finds someone that he can actually trust to tell.

the chapters that i read was when kip had to be in a jail like school for years but his family came and spend time with him but shortly after kips mom died of cancer so kips dad came and read the same book every book those chapters reminded me a book called toaching spirt bear were the teen was on a island and he had to be better and he had to learn how to be nice by doing things that are new to him and faceing his fears by saying sorry to the kid that he bullyed this is what i think after a while he will see that setting the kid on fire was bad so he will face up and say sorry to the kid mom and dad

i think that later on of right behind you kip will make new friends because kip/wade he is making new friends so maybe one of his friends he knows and likes wade will tell him that he set a kid on fire along time ago and his friend will tell every one about what happen.

when wade was drunk with his friends he was telling every one the truth about why he moved from alaska saying that he set the 9 year old boy on fire from the boy rubbing his present in kips face and he set the kid on fire and he had to stay in a jail like prison for along time till he was free and telling his teacher or guidence person why he set the boy on fire. soon after everyone was thinking it was real they thought oh he is lieing because hes drunk and he may tell lies but on of wades bestfriends knew that he was not lieing because he was telling the truth of seeing wades face not lieing but telling the truth.
