The setting has affected the story in many ways just in the beginning of the story. The story begins in Kip's (main character) young life, when he first showed signs of being a serial killer. Because he lived in such an isolated area, he didn't have many friends and worked with his father in his free time. It is even mentioned that when Kip first lit the boy on fire that it took the medics a long time to arrive because of his isolated living. In the abusive relationship and unhealthy living Kip endured, I too would have had an inappropriate reaction; maybe not lighting a kid on fire, but something inappropriate. (112 words)

In the first couple of chapters the story took place in Alaska outside of kip's house, out in front of the garage. It was a really hot day out in Alaska when kip and his was working outside. kip was complaining about being to hot and working way to much when kip's aunt, Jemma showed up to his house. Kip's aunt Jemma would show up occasionally and end up arguing with Kip's father about how Kip should move to an actually environment. Why Kip's aunt wants Kip to move away with her is cause she thinks it would be safer and take him away from all the bad memory's. Before hand Kip's mother had passed away from cancer and the aunt Jemma thinks kip's mother passed away cause Kip and his family lived way to far out and at then time when his mother needed help ASAP they where to far away from towns and hospitals and when the called for and ambiance it was to late when they had arrived. so when Kip's aunt Jemma showed up her and Kip's father started to argue. Kip was left outside alone. While Kip was outside his next door neighbor, Bobby showed up and started to talk to Kip. It was Bobby's seventh birthday and Bobby had gotten a really nice baseball glove. See at this time Kip was poor and couldn't afford something as nice as what Bobby had.bobby was waving the baseball glove in Kip's face and kept bragging about how he had a nice glove and how his mom got it for him and how kip would never get anything nice from his mom cause Kip didn't have a mom. Kip was getting mad and started to not think things throught and took the can of gasoline that was beside him and dumped it on Bobby's glove some gasoline got all over bobby and then Kip took a lighter that his dad sat down and flicked it on and throw it at bobby. Then Bobby and his baseball glove went up in flames. Kip was then taken to a mental institution and Bobby passed away.

The story begins in Kip's young life, when he first showed signs of being a killer. And there a lot of cause this happened first is he lived in such an isolated area, he didn't have many friends so he can not get people to pour out, second his mother died so he is short of love .

I agree with your view about the setting has affected the story in many ways just in the beginning of the story. And it show how important the living environment is. The environment which Kip has, is isolated and Lonely, and Mother's death made his environment worse.

I agree that Kip cowards to his father just a bit. If Kip confronted his father in a calm manner, one-on-one and asked him about his abusive behavior, their relationship might grow a bit stronger. This family is heading up hill; They just need to have better communication than they have now.

kip was a nine year boy who set another little boy on fire over a baseball glove but kip is from Indianan and it is mostly freezing so usually you would wear baggie pants and sweater or like two shirts it affects kip because when he goes to different school he ends dressing differently than most kids.

in novel right behind you I would say the most important conflict of the book would be that when kip was only nine years old he set another little boy on fire and how this effects him now he cant forgive himself so everything he dose wrong he feels that he would never be right and effects his relationship with his father because his mother died and he feels that it was his dads fault that she died because of cancer now kip looks at everybody in such a bad way and sees everybody driftnet it effects the he talks to adults even the way he sees himself he dosent even want his dad to be with another woman.

The conflict which i think is the most important in the story is external conflict. The conflict between the community and Kip's family. As the story said, Kip murder a 7 years old kid and get into a place which like juvenile prison. So this event make a conflict, after this event people who live in the community are starting repel Kip's family so they can not live there anymore, and kip's family need make a huge change ,to conceal real identity such like change name and move away. Because this happen Kip's dad need to drive far away to see kip,and this moment let kip know that his misunderstand a lot.And in another way, when Kip get out from the juvenile prison he will start his new life in a new place.I think this conflict is normal society response, and it also will hope kip get out(forgive) from his past.

I believe one conflict particular is more important than the external conflict. I believe the harsh environment that Kip had to grow up in is the cause of why the external conflict exists in the first place. The internal conflict with Kip and his past is what sparked the out lash. (51 words)

The internal conflict that Kip is forced to face due to the incident when he was young, is the root of all of these problems. Because Kips dad didn't provide a good up bringing (and the lack of a motherly figure) has lead Kips to act irrationally. If Kip was brought up in a better environment, he might not have acted so impulsively. I do sympathize with Kip, and I don't blame him for feeling the way he does. Once Kip is placed in a better school/area and is given the support he needs, I believe he will function accordingly. (101 words)

You are right, all the external conflict are case by Kip's innermost being.the harsh environment that Kip had to grow up in is the cause of why the external conflict exists in the first place. Kip's Incomplete mind make the bad thing(start) happened.

how dose the setting effect the character which is kip its affects him because it is always really cold in Alaska and this can have a affect on kip because when his mom died she always said it was very cold and she never wanted to get out of bed and every time he tried helping her she never wanted his help and this usually staged a seen kip had always believed it was his dad fault that his mom had and not only that it made him feel like he had nothing to lose so the affects kip in some other ways to like that he always wore like fennel shirts and wore sweaters so when he started going to school in Indianan he didn't know how to dress probably.

I agree the Setting of Kip's Life background effect the character. First the weather in Alaska is very cold, so in that special environment is let kip think his mothers' death is his fathers' fault. But i'm disagree with your "the cold weather in Alaska let Kip didn't know how to dress when he started going to school" i think Kip didn't wear Suitable clothes is a kind of intentional, The purpose is to let the people who in his new school more convinced of his identity.

The Theme of Right behind you is all about forgiveness, We need forgive ourselves. And it is meaningful to me. People need forgive themselves is very importance to the book, Kip McFarland is living with a painful secret: when he was nine, he set Bobby Clarke on fire. And Bobby died.
This period of the past like the nightmares, and the guilt torture him. Even he is "rehabilitated" after four long yours in a juvenile ward. And this past catches up with he again and again, He can't forgive himself , and have rift between he and he's friends. In another way Kip's stepmom have "forgiveness" too, she need to forgive herself from her dads' death.
We need forgive ourselves is meaningful in real life too, Sometime we need let things past, then the good will be come.

I like your view on this. Honestly, I see many possible themes in this book, but I like the idea you have had. It does seem like every conflict can be traced back to the fact that someone will not forgive themselves or another person; you have sparked a nice conversation.

This book doesn't have one main theme. Because Kip has gone though so much, it is nearly impossible to pinpoint one certain message that the author intended. Obviously the theme is more complex than "bullying is bad" or "try your hardest" but everything that kip has gone through can be made into a lesson. For example, Nobody knew that 'Wade' actually had a very dark past. This can have the message of "Never judge a book by its cover." But other insistence the message could be "manager your feelings" from when Kip lashes out (which is quite often) or when he reveals his past to everyone when he was irresponsible. (110 words)

I like your view on this, Which said "this book doesn't have one main theme. Right, As you said Kip has gone through so much, From his sin past(Murdered a child) to he overcome difficulties about Campus bullying. Every event Kip experience can be a theme.
